Issues Affecting Us

Readers, please tell me what bothers you about Edison.  I'll investigate what steps township officials are taking to solve the problems you identify.  I'll report back with whatever I find.

I'm relying on you!  Please post about issues you want for me to investigate in our Community Forum

On this page we'll document our efforts to make a difference. This website will thereby act as a watchdog, bringing the Township's administrative responsiveness and performance into the light of day.

If I report on an issue that matters to you, please offer comments in the Community Forum.  You're free to post anonymously, and without having to register, if you wish.

We're not promising the moon. But please please bear this in mind: Participation is the key to success. If residents don't voice and discuss their concerns, then why would the Township administration feel pressure to take any action?

Loud Volume Spikes in Cablevision's Broadcasting of Commercials

--submitted by Roger Peterson on February 1st, 2010

This isn't the township's fault, nor even Cablevision's, but it's still somethng we might have an effect upon.

The volume during commercials sometimes becomes booming. It is very disruptive.  There's a bill currently in the U.S. Senate to force networks to cease this obnoxious practice.

Add your voice to the chorus of unhappy customers.  I'll do everything I can to make sure Edison residents' voices get heard.

Low Water Pressure in South Edison

--submitted by Roger Peterson on February 1st, 2010

The water pressure in much of south Edison is ridiculously low.  There's no excuse for it.  Evidently it has not been a priority.

If this matters to you, then let your feelings be known on the forum!

BOE's $214.2m Prelim. School Budget 2010-11

--submitted by RalphB on March 6th, 2010

Well, according to Board Prez. David Dickinson, this preliminary school budget for 2010-11 is meaningless until they get final state aid numbers from the state. You think? Can you imagine putting something together asking to Spend $214.2 million and putting everything on hold, including the public, because you don't know what state aid (only 10% of the total) will be. Further complicating the matter, while the Governor is telling school districts to prepare for cuts in state aid up to 15% - what does Dickinson do? He budgets an increase to state aid of some 18%.

Seriously now, time to pay attention to these people. While they don't discuss or share with the public the rationale for the $214.2 million - they just say it's meaningless, there's something that's not meaningless;

1. They're raising the tax rate by some 12 tax points - from $2.38 per hundred to $2.50! That's an increase on the imaginary home assessed at $176,400 of some $200+ a year.

2. They conveniently budgeted the Local Tax Levy at the full 4% Cap - or some $7.7 million. Not bad for a meaningless budget.

Pay attention folks, it's only gonna get better.
